Over the last couple of decades, most of the movies that have reigned supreme at the box office have been parts of notable franchises. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the highest-grossing film franchise in Hollywood history, in one way, another notable movie series has been even more successful.
Ever since the release of 1962’s Dr. No, James Bond movies have been released semi-regularly. Once you realize that means that the Bond film franchise is roughly 58-years-old at the time of this writing, that is impressive beyond belief.
On top of the Bond franchise’s incredible ability to remain relevant over the decades, the series deserves a lot of credit for making the careers of several actors. For example, it could easily be argued that to this day, Eva Green is most famous for starring in the 2006 Bond movie Casino Royale. Even still, Green’s post-Bond career has also been fascinating to watch and deserves to be talked about more.

Revealing Statement
After spending decades as one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, in 2017 the world became aware that Harvey Weinstein had been abusing people for years. After many women were courageous enough to reveal Weinstein’s abusive behavior to the public, he was charged with several crimes and stood trial. Eventually convicted of two charges that relate to him forcing himself on women, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Once the initial wave of accusations against Harvey Weinstein were in the public eye, several women came forward to confirm that they too were a victim of his abusive behavior. Among the women who broke their silence about Weinstein’s behavior was Eva Green who put out a statement about the way, he treated her.
“I met him for a business meeting in Paris where he behaved inappropriately and I had to push him off. I got away without it going further, but the experience left me shocked and disgusted. I have not discussed this before because I wanted to maintain my privacy, but I understand it is important to do so as I hear about other women’s experiences. Women are often condemned when they speak out and their personal reputations tarnished by association.”
“I salute the great bravery of the women who have come forward. We should recognize that this sort of behavior exists everywhere and is not unique to the entertainment industry. The exploitation of power is ubiquitous. This behavior is unacceptable and needs to be eliminated.” Eva Green and everyone else who came out to make sure that Harvey Weinstein couldn’t continue hurting people deserves all the credit in the world.

Legal Dispute
Unlike in the real world where most people only get paid for the work they do, in Hollywood, there is something called a pay or play contract. Once an actor signs one of those contracts, they are supposed to get their salary even if the project they agreed to be a part of gets canceled for reasons that are out of their control.
According to Eva Green’s legal team, when she agreed to star in a film called A Patriot, she and the film’s producers agreed to a pay or play contract but they refuse to give her the money she is owed. Since Green claims the film’s producers are in breach of contract, she is suing them for £800,000 (roughly $1 million).
Unsurprisingly, the producers of A Patriot disagree with Green’s demands. According to White Lantern Film (Britannica), they “borrowed and spent significant sums to attach Ms. Green to the film. It also paid members of her team and other preparatory expenses. In breach of contract, she and her team then unilaterally withdrew from the production before it started filming, and without notice. WLFB has suffered financial losses and quantifiable damages of more than $4 million, which it is going to court to recover.”
As of the time of this writing, the lawsuit and countersuit that Eva Green and White Lantern Film (Britannica) have filed have not gone to court. As a result, there is no way for observers to know which party is telling the truth about the situation and who will prevail in court. On top of that, it should be noted that celebrities constantly seem to get embroiled in lawsuits, and most of the time, they get settled in secrecy outside of court.

Continued Acting Success
When Eva Green landed a role in Casino Royale, her career was still very much on the rise. After all, by then she was best known for starring in an independent film called The Dreamers and a huge portion of moviegoers have never heard of that film.
The year after Casino Royale came out, Eva Green appeared in The Golden Compass, a movie that was meant to spawn an entire franchise of films. While that movie didn’t perform well so plans for the franchise were abandoned, Green went on to work with Tim Burton on the film Dark Shadows. From there, Green appeared in a pair of highly stylized movie sequels, 300: Rise of an Empire and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. In addition to all of the high profile film roles Green has landed, she also went on to star in Showtime’s horror drama Penny Dreadful.
In 2019, Eva Green arguably entered a new phase in her career as she was hired to star in a major Disney movie. Chosen to star in Disney’s 2019 live-action remake of Dumbo, it says a lot that the biggest movie company in the world allowed Green to star in one of the high-profile projects. Hopefully, that is an indication of great things to come in the career of Eva Green.
